VIRGINIA BEACH
The City Council on Tuesday night reaffirmed its opposition to uranium mining in Virginia.
The action comes after the completion of several studies on a proposal to mine uranium in Pittsylvania County.
Virginia Beach officials worry a catastrophic storm hitting a uranium mine could result in the contamination of Lake Gaston, the city's water supply located downstream from the deposit.
Officials are against the General Assembly lifting the existing moratorium on the mining
