GeoEye Inc. is part of a project to map the solar potential of every home’s roof in the country.
The Herndon-based provider of geospatial information said it had joined a strategic partnership with Martisnburg, W.Va.-based Geostellar, which uses geospatial technology to measure the potential of solar power on structures.
Under the agreement, GeoEye will provide Geostellear with Earth imagery, digital surface models and other mapping data.
In addition, GeoEye will take an equity position in the company.
Geostellar has built an analytics platform that can assess how quickly a property owner can recoup an investment in solar energy. Geostellar needed a partner to collect and process massive amounts of imagery data to catalog the solar power potential of every commercial and residential property in the U.S.
