The National Research Council will present a public briefing on its scientific study, "Uranium Mining in Virginia," Tuesday, Feb. 7, at 6:30 p.m. at the Institute for Advanced Learning and Research in Danville.
Several members of the committee that wrote the 350-page report will present findings and take questions from the public, said Jennifer Walsh, a spokesman for the National Research Council in Washington, D.C.
It concluded Virginia will face "steep hurdles" to protect the health and safety of workers, the public, and the environment if lawmakers lift a 30-year moratorium on uranium mining and milling
